My Ankle Surgery

Well it has been a very long time since I have posted a new entry. I will keep this updated for now on. Have been a very lazy person. In mid Febuary I slipped on ice, I thought it was nothing too serious, went to the clinic I always go to and there was nothing too bad they said. Just a bad sprain. Told me to stay on my crutches for a couple weeks and I will be all fine and dandy (yes, dandy).

Before Surgery ThumbnailCouple day’s later I get a call back from the clinic I went to, telling me to not walk on my ankle. Apparently I broke a bone in my ankle, and I will need to go to a hospital for x-rays and a CT scan, which was a major bummer. It was looking pretty bad, my ankle was severely swollen after a few days

So I went to Regions Hospital and clinic in Saint Paul, MN for the X-ray’s, and talked to DR about it. Got the X-rays taken and it was ugly. My bones did not break, but separated from where they are supposed to be. I had a massive gap in between my fibula and the ankle bone (talus), so they would need to insert two screws and a plate in my ankle to try to straighten it out. That I found the most depressing of all of it, the inability to walk months after my surgery, with only the assistance of crutches.

Placing plate in my ankle

Drilling screws in my ankle

The final product, 2 screws and a plate

So that was on the 11th of February, two months have passed by and now My bones are strong and I am able to walk with a limp, as I can only put about 1/5 of my weight on my ankle. After Surgery

The Fibula and the Talus’ gap has closed considerably now, it almost looks like a normal ankle (just with 2 screws and a plate in it). However, I will be going in for another follow up around the 14th of this month. I really do hope to be ready and able to go back to full walking and ability to jog before sometime in mid May. That might be pushing it though? Only time will tell.

I will be sure to keep updated on this now. I have never been much of a blogger, but ya know. There needs to be change as everyone is saying now. So I should change too and blog more often! Besides, why shouldn’t I?
